The first Mystery Read-A-Thon

When I told Marleen about Dewey's 24 Hour Read-A-Thon and how much fun I had, we talked about doing it again, but October seemed so far away - and 24 hours so hard to do! So we got to think about the premise for a (short) while.

Since we originally met through our mutual love for mystery series, a mystery read-a-thon was what first came to mind. And since we both figured 24 hours is soooo long, far too long in fact to do it more that twice a year, if that, we figured punishing our families for 12 hours of complete ignorance of them (sorry guys, we still love you!) would be enough.

But 12 hours left us with a problem. If people from other countries would want to join us, and we would set the read-a-thon for 12 hours and those who live at the other side of the world would have to read during the night. Sounds unfair, right? So we figured if we make it a longer challenge and everyone can pick the 12 hours that fits best into the schedule.

So the first Mystery Read-A-Thon will take place June 7, 2009! And your challenge will be to read for 12 hours on this day.

If you would like to join, please enter your name and the link to your blog (if you have one) to Mr. Linky.

ETA: As I have just found out, this Mr. Linky apparently doesn't like names only, so if you don't have a blog, please just use the address for this blog instead to go with your name!

  2. I will be here after all. The wedding isn't even in June, never mind on the 7th. LOL. I really shouldn't make plans with a head cold.

  3. Twelve hours of reading! Wow. My idea of an ideal day. Now if I can just get the rest of my life to cooperate....

  4. @ Rhonda: Then go and talk your co-author into it! The more the merrier :-)

@ Mare: I'm so glad to hear this!

@ Betty: Same here. I am all for reading for hours without lettng anyone interrupt me :-) I usually make the rest cooperate with earplugs, canceling appointments and telling everyone that I won't do a thing that day. I hope it works for you!

  7. I don't think I can read more than one book in 12 hours. I'm a slow reader. Is that okay? Judy in California

  9. After all the fun in Dewey's read-a-thon i just can't resist taking part in this event too... 12 hrs suits me just right but the fun of everyone from everypart of the world being mysteries being my favorite for the year, this could be a lot of fun :)

  10. Great to see you're all in for the fun!

@ Judy: Don't worry, the goal is to read for 12 hours, that's all. No need to be able to read book after book in that time. Even if you couldn't finish a book during that time, it would still be okay :-)

  11. I'd really love to participate as well. But I'm having some technical difficulties. Everything is cut off and I'm not able to sign into Mr. Linky. But I'd love to be added to the list:

  17. I've ordinarily got so many things to do, and I'm so unorganized, that I'm able to read only 15 minutes to a half-hour at a time. Maybe this challenge is what I need. It'll be a challenge, but I'll do it.

Plus it's my birthday that day-what a great gift to myself :-) I am not sure how much of a challenge it will be though, my husband will be working most of the time...but I am still happily looking forward to it!
